This is a guide to the typical antenatal appointments offered by the NHS in the United Kingdom as of 2017. Please use this as a guideline, some areas and some midwives may operate differently.

16 Week Midwife Appointment
Alongside the health checks typically performed at a midwife appointment you will have the opportunity to discuss the results of any screening tests you underwent. You should be given local information about antenatal classes you can attend as these usually need to be booked in advance.

A Practical Guide to Ultrasounds

25 Week Midwife Appointment- First Baby Only
This appointment is only for those carrying their first baby.

28 Week Midwife Appointment
At this appointment you will be offered further screening tests and your bloods will be taken. If you are rhesus negative you will receive your first anti-D treatment.

31 Week Midwife Appointment- First Baby Only
You will only have this appointment if this is your first baby. You will discuss the results of any screening tests and any treatment required if you are anaemic.

34 Week Midwife Appointment
You will discuss the results of any screening tests and any treatment required if you are anaemic. If you are rhesus negative you will have your second anti-D treatment. You will begin discussions about labour. Your midwife will discuss how to identify active labour, coping with pain and your intended birth plan as well as informing you about different types of deliveries such as cesareans.

36 Week Midwife Appointment
This appointment will focus on how you plan to feed your baby and offer you information on classes and events that may help if you decide to breastfeed. Your midwife should discuss vitamin K with you and check your mood and mental wellbeing.

38 Week Midwife Appointment
You will discuss the options available to you if your pregnancy lasts longer than 41 weeks.

40 Week Midwife Appointment- First Baby Only
You will only have this appointment if this is your first baby. It will focus on the options available to you if your pregnancy continues past 41 weeks.

41 Week Midwife Appointment
You will be offered a membrane sweep and discuss the possibility of induction.

42 Week Midwife Appointment
If you have chosen not to be induced then you will be offered extra monitoring.
